We really liked Porto and wished we had planned to stay longer.
It's the second largest city in Portugal but doesn't seem that large.
It's very hilly but that made for great viewpoints as we walked around.
Tiles in the Sao Bento train station
The photo below is actually 2 churches with a very narrow building in between
to keep the nuns and monks separated.
Even though it was very touristy, we wanted to eat lunch along the river Douro. There were lots of outdoor restaurants but they all allowed smoking outside. We told the waiter that we wanted a non smoking table and he took us upstairs to this lovely room overlooking the tourist hub-bub. It had great food and lovely tiles.
Across the Douro from the main part of Porto are the port wine lodges.
You can take tours of them with tastings at the end.
We toured and tasted at Ferreira and then later on tasted port at Sandeman's plaza.
On our way back to our hotel, we passed one of the TVs showing the World Cup in a large plaza. We saw these all over Portugal.
