Akaroa

Akaroa was originally settled by the French as opposed to most of the rest of NZ which was settled by the English and Scots.  It is near Christchurch, but there was a devastating earthquake there in 2011 so we did not go there.  Instead, we went to a sheep farm.  We saw a sheep herding demonstration - quite amazing!

If you look really carefully, you'll see lots of sheep on this hillside.
The sheepdog runs up the hill following the whistled commands of his master.

After he'd finished herding the sheep, he sat and waited for his next whistled command.

Then another dog herded the sheep back up the hill.

We also saw a sheep shearing demonstration.

After the demonstrations, we walked around Akaroa.
