Napier - Our 40th Anniversary

Our next port was Napier.  In the 1930's, Napier and the surrounding area suffered a severe earthquake.  Most of the town was destroyed.  During rebuilding, the town decided to adopt art deco style for its buildings.

Napier is also near the Hawkes Bay wine region.  We went wine tasting at two wineries.  The first was Moana Park.  They happened to be having a special wine tasting event with entertainment.  It was fun to see all the locals enjoying the day.

We went up an incredibly steep one way road for a panoramic view of the area.  They had a traffic control person to stop the traffic so our bus could go up and down the road.  The view was great!  Remind anyone of California???

Even McDonalds has art deco décor.

The second winery was Mission Estates which is the oldest winery in New Zealand.

Back at the pier, we were welcomed with people in costumes of the era,
antique cars and a Dixieland band.

When we returned to our stateroom, our cabin stewards had decorated it for our anniversary!
