Punta Arenas, Chile and the Chilean coast

We went to see another Penguin area near Punta Arenas.  Magdalena Island is a national park that is home to hundreds of Magellanic penguins.  It was quite different from the place we saw penguins in the Falklands.  Here it was very dry and sandy and the penguins lived in burros.  There were thousands of them all over the island!
Our ferry boat was arriving and the penguins came out to greet us.
The guys on the shore had to chase them out of the way.

We went into Punta Arenas after we returning from Magdalena Island.  A lot of money was made there before the Panama Canal was built, so there were some beautiful old buildings.

Statue of Magellan in the main plaza.
Note the sleeping dogs.  There were dogs wandering everywhere in Chile.

It's supposed to be good luck to kiss the huge foot of the Fuegian on the statue.

After leaving Punta Arenas, we spent a couple of days sailing along the Chilean coast.
