We had a "day from hell" getting from Trujillo to the Sacred Valley. Our flight from Trujillo to Lima was delayed due to fog and later cancelled. We ended up driving back to Chiclayo (about 4 hours) and catching a flight at 11PM. Our original flight was supposed to be at 8AM. Then we took a flight at 5AM from Lima to Cusco, arriving there around 6:30AM. Road Scholar kept us well informed about the delays and what they were trying to do to get us to our destination. They also put us up in "day" rooms in Chiclayo and near the Lima airport for a couple of hours so we could take naps. Needless to say by the time we got to the Sacred Valley, we were exhausted. Luckily, the schedule was rearranged so that we could nap and catch up on some sleep.
We stopped at an alpaca farm on the way from Cusco to the Sacred Valley.
Our hotel in the Sacred Valley was truly beautiful - lovely hacienda type buildings, courtyards and gardens, nestled in the mountains. It was a perfect spot to relax after our day from hell and get used to the altitude.
The next day we visited our first Inca site, Ollantaytambo.
