Trujillo

The drive from Chiclayo to Trujillo took several hours with a few stops along the way.
Trujillo is a beautiful, colonial town. We arrived after dark so our first view was of these lovely, spot lighted colonial buildings around the central plaza.

We thought this statue was a woman with flying skirt a la Marilyn Monroe, but when we saw it in the daytime it turns out it's a male.  You'll see more photos below.

The entrance to our hotel at night.
And the entrance during the day.

More photos around the plaza.

Just outside of Trujillo, we visited the ruins of the Huaca del Sol from around 500AD.

Re-creation of the mural above, current state below.

We drove out to a beach town called Huanchaco where we had a great lunch overlooking the water.

Just our appetizers - ceviche, causa, corn, sweet potatoes.
A fisherman gave us a demonstration of how the traditional reed fishing boats are built.
And here are the boats lined up along the boardwalk.

After lunch, we went to Chan Chan which is one of the largest archeological complexes in Peru.  It dates from the 15th century.  Since it's very close to the coast, there were a lot of seabird and fish images.
