We took a 30 minute train ride to Nara. Nara is famous for its deer population which roam freely around the city. You can buy special crackers to feed them.
Nara is also known for its big Buddha, which is supposed to be the largest bronze statue in the world. (I'm not sure but I think we saw a bigger one in Bangkok.) The building that it's in is the largest wooden building in the world.
We went to Kasuga Taisha shrine which has 3000 lanterns along its walkways, most of which are in the forest.
Back in Kyoto at the very modern train station which has an observation deck overlooking the entire city.
