Takayama

Takayama Jinya which was the government office in the 1700's & 1800's

We visited a sake factory and had a couple of tastes.

Bought a jacket at this shop on a street of old merchant houses.

Hida Takayama Museum of Art is up on a hill above town.  The collection specializes in European Art Nouveau.  It might seem a weird thing to do in Japan, but we couldn't miss it since that is one of our favorite eras.  It was definitely worth seeing with many glassware displays as well as whole rooms from Wiener Werkstatte and Mackintosh and a fountain from a shopping arcade in Paris.

After touring the museum, we had a snack in the Mackintosh Tearoom which is modeled on one in Glasgow.
